Action Comics #14

July 1939 D.C.
One of my personal favorite Golden Age artists is Fred Guardineer. He just seems to have a great ability to set a dramatic scene and this cover is no exception. With the rise of publications such as National Geographic, America in the early 1900's was exposed to other lands and cultures thus, creating a thirst for adventures set in those locals. Comics publishers, along with the pulps before them, were eager to quench that thirst as this issue demonstrates. The back cover from this issue is typical of the era and showcases the wonderful variety of items that could all be had for a mere dollar or less!
