Air Fighters Comics #9
March 1943 Hillman Publications
At the height of World War II, when it was unclear if the
Allies would be victorious against the Nazis and the
Japanese, covers such as this were quite common. Anything to
rally the troops and depict our enemies as anything other
than human was used. Note how the scurrying Japanese-Rats
flee in terror as they are savagely dealt with by the
heroics of Airboy. The use of blood on covers was relatively
unusual however as is the bleeding bullet hole to the head.
Inside one will find titillating negligee panels and a
brutal hanging panel. Less than 200 known copies of this
issue are thought to exist. While this copy does have a
slight spine roll, it is still attractive and has a nice
cover.
