Captain America #100

April 1968 Marvel
Jack "King" Kirby brings Captain America (affectionately known simply as "Cap") to his own title after a long hiatus from the Golden Age with this issue. Kirby's sense of drama was nigh unmatched during his reign at Marvel. With Cap bounding out of the cover, his fellow super-heroes are not far behind. Can you name them all? Of course there's the Sub-Mariner, Iron Man and Thor. What about the others? Can you match these names: Black Panther (well... duh!) Giant Man, the Wasp and......??? A $5.00 credit slip to the first person that e-mails me the correct name of the blonde. Anyway, the cover says "Big Premiere Issue!" and yet it's... #100??! That's 'cause the first 99 issues were Tales of Suspense! Why the title change? Many Marvel titles changed names or spun their heroes off. To wit, Iron Man, Sub-Mariner, Nick Fury, Dr Strange, Thor, and the Incredible Hulk got their own titles and the anthology titles were done away with. Anyway, this Key Silver Age Marvel issue features the obligatory (for a premiere issue that is) origin retelling. Specifically, a flashback of Cap's revival from Avengers #4. While this copy has some very light foxing, it has only the most insignificant defects and best of all, it has STUNNING COVER GLOSS!
